None of the water bodies are in good ecological and chemical status. All exceed the limit values for nitrates, mercury and mercury compounds, and the herbicide brominated diphenyl ether. In the middle reaches of the Lippingau, the limit values for the herbicide diflufenican are also exceeded. Several stationary chemical and biological monitoring stations are located along the Lippingau and the lower reaches of the Esguser Mühlenstrom stream (see Map 2). According to the Water Framework Directive (WFD), all water bodies in the European Union must achieve "good" ecological and chemical status by 2028.

Along the entire Fördesteig between Falshöft and Birk Nack there are always beautiful views of Denmark.

There are several beautifully decorated power or distribution boxes in the region and they represent a welcome change from the gray dreariness.
