UPDATE!!! The Karl Ludwig Haus has been closed since last autumn due to a missing tenant! The Karl-Ludwig-Haus of the ÖTK is one of the classic huts and a much-visited refuge for Raxalpinists. The refuge is located on the high plateau of the Rax at 1804 meters above sea level in the province of Styria. The altitude ensures a splendid sun spot and a beautiful panorama. It is an important base for long-distance hikers on the Northern Alpine Trail. The Karl-Ludwig-Haus is around 1.1 km east of the Heukuppe (2007 m above sea level), the highest elevation of the Rax, or around 1.9 km north-west of the Preiner Gscheid. Despite the extensive modernization in 2011, an attempt was made to preserve the old rooms. Today you can still spend the night in the Archduke Karl Ludig room like in 1903 during the imperial era. There are also a dozen other historical rooms. All rooms are heated. The overnight rates include dinner and breakfast. Pre-registration is required. The rooms and storage areas can be occupied from 5 p.m. and should be vacated by 9 a.m. the following day. Reserved sleeping places are kept free until 6:00 p.m. Please be sure to notify us of a later arrival time. When booking a room, no sleeping bag is required.
