The Majaceite River Trail is one of the most popular routes in the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park in Cádiz. This approximately 4.4-kilometre route connects the towns of El Bosque and Benamahoma. It is a low-difficulty trail, ideal for families, and can be completed in about 2 hours. During the walk, you will be accompanied by the Majaceite River, also known as the El Bosque River, and you will be able to observe a beautiful gallery forest with poplars, ash trees and elms. In addition, there are several points of historical interest, such as old mills and the Fábrica de Luz, which provided electricity to the area until 1963.

It is a beautiful trail, we enjoyed it very much, we have done it twice now and I have not planned a third.

Using the power of moving water to drive a mill wheel is an ancient invention that dates back to pre-Christian times. Thanks to such a construction, human or animal muscle power could be easily replaced by a watercourse - natural or artificially created - in order to grind grain into corn, for example. There are essentially two different ways of driving watermills: Either the water simply hits the blades of the water wheel from below to set it in motion; or the water is guided above the wheel and falls onto the blades; this type of construction is more efficient due to natural gravity.

The perfect grid of the urban planning of this town suggests that it is not a very old place. However, this is due to the fact that the roots of this town are found in the site of the Roman city of Iptuci, which already had a similar plan. The site was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest.

This castle of Andalusian origin and Christian reconstruction suffered a significant partial collapse of its tower in 2013 due to the terrible state of conservation in which it was found. In 2016, conservation and restoration works were finally carried out, which were highly controversial due to the restoration concept that was followed, which for some was too intrusive. However, for his honesty and candor in restorative design, which enhances the real remains, he was awarded an international prize for architecture.

Route El Bosque - Benamahoma deep waterfall. Perfect for hiking trips with children.

This waterfall is one of the biggest attractions that exists between the towns of El Bosque and Benamahoma. There is a small pool where many go to take a dip. In summer it can be very crowded.

Old flour mill of which only the ruins of the building and the stones used to grind the grain are preserved. It is located on the banks of the Majaceite River, whose movement was used to move the mechanisms of the mill. In the surroundings there are small waterfalls that make this corner an idyllic place to walk.
