The route up from Biere on the Swiss side is a solid steady climb with a few 12% and 13% sections. Traffic is quite light and the road is excellent. The trees give some nice protection from the sun and wind. Crossing the col northwards takes you down to the Vallé de Joux on a pretty steep decent with great corners and some short straights. My brakes made sounds I have never heard before! I did this and Col de Mollendrux together for a great 80k / 1,500 m ride. Recommended.

Ideal short stop with the children

Wide road from Vallorbe, lots of traffic, the first km is pretty steep. Juraparc near the col, with some goats and cute alpacas next to the road! An easier alternative to the Mollendruz to get into the Vallée de Joux.

The ride up the Col du Marchairuz is a truly stunning landscape. From the Vallé de Joux and the village of Le Brassus, the initial climb is somewhat steeper, through beautiful Jura forests and meadows to a wide intermediate plateau. There, the road runs in a perfectly straight line. Perfect for preparing yourself for the short, tough final climb to the pass at 1,449 meters. A restaurant awaits you at the top of the pass, open Wednesday to Sunday. To get a view of Lake Geneva, you'll have to descend slightly on the other side, as the trees are in the way.

The church tower of Saint-Etienne was once an integral part of the fortifications. Easily recognizable by its solid construction and the loopholes on the sides. In the tower passage there is an interesting information board stating that Wolfgang Amadé Mozart and his family stopped in Moudon in 1766 on their journey through Switzerland.

Built between 990 and 1030, the abbey is one of the oldest Romanesque buildings in Switzerland. The village is also beautiful, and it is worth taking the time to explore its small cobbled streets.

It's really worth spending time there and enjoying something delicious from the kitchen... it's just wonderful.

The horse museum in the outbuildings shows horse-drawn vehicles and highlights the role of the horse and harness in warfare, in the circus, in hunting with greyhounds, etc.
