The monastery was originally built as a castle in the 16th century and later converted into a monastery by Pauline monks. The monastery church is famous for its 18th-century frescoes by the painter Anton Lerchinger. The monastery houses one of the oldest monastic pharmacies in Europe, still preserved in its original condition. The monks in Olimje are also known for cultivating medicinal herbs and producing natural remedies.

The Olimje Monastery, a former Renaissance castle, has stood since the 11th century. It belonged to the Counts of Pilstein. It changed hands several times throughout history. St. Emma of Gurk was also its owner. In 1663, the then owner donated it to the Pauline Order in Lepoglava (Croatia). The order, which owned the building for 120 years, converted the castle into a monastery, creating the magnificent Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and the monastery with its magnificently painted pharmacy. The Pauline Order began construction of the Baroque-style church in 1665. Construction took only 10 years! The high altar was built by the Pauline monks and is one of the largest "golden altars" in Slovenia. The monastery was dissolved in 1782, and Olimje became a parish in 1785. Since 1990, the Marian shrine and parish have been administered by the Friars Minor (Minorites) of St. Francis. http://www.olimje.net/

A wonderful nature trail begins here, about a half-hour walk down into the village. The castle itself is well preserved.

Olimje Friars Minor Conventual Monastery is a beautiful former castle, next to the Church of the Assumption. In the monastery there's an old monastic pharmacy, where you can buy all kind of great herbal teas, tinctures and other remedies, made from the plants that monks grow and gather themselves.

Vetrnik hill (708 m) is found in the east of Bohor. On its northern side, it descends slightly more steeply towards Kozje and the Bistrica valley, while on its southern side it is laid out, friendly populated with hamlets and solitary houses, meadows and vineyards, separated by roads and carriageways. Its tourist attraction is more than 20 ha of extensive hill meadows. The Kozjan park has the merit that, in addition to enjoying the natural beauty, visitors to Vetrnik can also learn something through the VETRNIK LEARNING TRAIL. Among other things, the information boards inform the visitor about a special living community, the so-called dry meadow. Something that is supposed to be dry is on the sloping summit plateau, on a giant palm of earth, set in the sun, beautifully colored in the spring by countless meadow plants. Dry meadows are characterized by an extremely large number of plant and animal species, including some very rare ones. In the height of the season, we can count more than 50 plant species per square meter. For example, as many as 25 species of rare and endangered orchids bloom at Vetrnik. There are also an extraordinary number of butterflies, netflies, beetles and other animals. From the top of Vetrnik there is a beautiful view of Boč and Donačka gora, Pilštanj square, the Bistrica river valley and the eastern slopes of Bohor. In good weather, the view extends to the Gorjanci with the Brežiška-Krsk field, and in the NW direction to part of the Celje basin, the slopes of the Kamnik-Savinjske Alps and to the north to Pohorje. Hikers and cyclists with a map in their pocket, on their way! At Vetrnik, the locals will definitely show you the way to Žličar. You will find out what happened to the poor boy... He thoughtlessly cursed the scorching sun while he was making spoons. He was petrified with his spoons and still sits there to this day, as an eternal warning to people not to curse the sun. https://kozjanski-park.si/?page_id=201 https://www.visitpodcetrtek.com/zanimivosti/naravoslovna-pot-vetrnik

Castle and existing Minorite monastery with old pharmacy. Next door is the Čokoladnica with fine chocolate products and pralines.

Nice little castle that is fairly newly renovated. From the top you have a great view. Unfortunately, you can't seem to see the castle from the inside. From the small hiking car park you can either walk up to the castle about 700m or drive a separate way directly to the castle. There is a parking lot there.
