The rectory garden is part of Oltingen's Gothic church ensemble. It was redesigned in 2010 according to historically authentic elements and is open to the public.

Visible from afar, the walled church complex of St. Nicholas towers over Oltingen. St. Nicholas was first documented in 1296, and the current building dates back to the late Gothic period. During renovations in 1956, magnificent frescoes were discovered and beautifully restored. They depict, in particular, stories from the life of the church's patron saint, St. Nicholas of Myra, and the Virgin Mary. The building complex includes the rectory, also Gothic, with an adjoining, smaller ossuary dating from 1517. Adjacent to the north is the rectory barn, built in 1710.

The small village of Kilchberg, located in the lovely Eital valley, has fewer than 200 inhabitants. It boasts a picturesque townscape with old houses and farmsteads, flower-filled fountains, and the dominant neo-Gothic Church of St. Martin. The church was first documented in 1276. Today, however, only the tower, built in 1619, remains; the rest of the church building was demolished and rebuilt in 1867/68.

The "valley" is about 100m deep and has a size of about 72 hectares. Because of its steep, wooded flanks, the valley in the Tafeljura is also known as the small "Grand Canyon" of the Baselbiet. Nature lovers in particular get their money's worth in the "valley", because in addition to the natural vegetation, the many waterfalls and beautiful ponds, the nature reserve is home to many rare animals and plants of the region.
