Alice Holt Forest is an area of predominantly coniferous woodland. There is a selection of cycle and walking trails as well as a café. It's all managed by Forestry England.

Since 2002, when the RSPB purchased the land here, Farnham Heath has seen a glorious recovery. What had been a relatively bleak conifer plantation is now a habitat for several heathland species, including Sand Lizards, Adders and the Green Tiger Beetle. Bring your binoculars for the birdlife too, as you might spot Nightjars, Dartford Warblers, Stonechats, Tree Pipits and Woodlarks.

If you're a movie buff, then this will be a very exciting location for you! This is the spot where the mighty, bloody battle scene of Gladiator was filmed. The woods have also featured in a number of other popular films including Harry Potter, Warhorse, Thor, Wonder Woman and Transformers 3.

Bourne Wood is a beautiful coniferous woodland situated just outside of Farnham in Surrey. A network of trails will lead you through the forest, and you'll be afforded some impressive views along the way across the pine forest landscape.

Alice Holt Forest has lots of footpaths and nature trails to explore, as well as picnic areas, fishing ponds, cycling trails, play areas, and relaxation spots. As many will know, if you venture into the deep dark wood you may bump into the Gruffalo. This is especially true of Alice Holt Forest, though, as there are many wooden sculptures from Julia Donaldson's story hidden in the woodland. Interestingly, this royal forest was used to supply timber for Royal Navy ships in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is now in the care of the Forestry Commission.
