Country inn with good cuisine

St. Maternus Church in Mönchgrün, Thuringia, is a charming example of a historic village church deeply rooted in regional history. Its naming after Saint Maternus (an early bishop of Cologne) is rather rare in this region and suggests either old ecclesiastical connections or the veneration of this saint during the church's founding period.

The waiting room at Lössau station was relocated during the early GDR era because the station building was being converted into a holiday resort for the German Reichsbahn. Now the wooden structure is decaying in the forest.

Its origins remain a great mystery. No written evidence from the Middle Ages exists, except that it once bore the name "St. Gehilf" (St. Assistant). This referred to the hospital opposite, where lepers were housed.

Closed on Monday and Wednesday, but otherwise always a good economy
