The Protestant parish church, also known as St. Jost's Church due to its former patron saint, forms a striking architectural centerpiece on the main thoroughfare of the historic village center, together with its imposing chancel tower and the adjacent Old Schoolhouse (now the Mörike Museum). The necessary funds for the construction of the town tower next to it were raised through several collections in various Württemberg district offices. The town tower was completed in 1703. The new tower was equipped with a watchman's apartment, which proved to be its undoing. In 1831, the watchman's apartment burned down along with the tower's spire. The three bells melted in the embers. A notebook records: "On January 8, 1831, at 9 p.m., the tower burned down. The misfortune was caused by a stone in the bed that was too hot."

Neuenstadt am Kocher Castle, an irregular complex of several buildings, is situated at the highest point of the historic town center in the northeast. Together with the town parish church, which is attached to the southeastern part of the complex, and the gate tower of the upper gate, it forms the central, defining ensemble of the townscape. The castle complex was built incorporating the town castle of the Lords of Weinsberg, who founded Neuenstadt as a planned settlement around 1320. The predecessor castle, first documented in 1392, was integrated into the town fortifications and is still visible in the form of the northeastern round tower with its characteristic funnel-shaped embrasures. It served the Lords of Weinsberg as their preferred residence from the last quarter of the 14th century. After Neuenstadt was sold to the Electorate of the Palatinate in 1450 and finally came into Württemberg possession in 1504 during the War of the Bavarian Succession, the town castle was converted and expanded into an administrative, lordly, and official residence under Duke Christoph from 1559 onwards. The centerpiece is the Dürnitz building, which, along with its northern extensions, was constructed by 1565 on the foundations of older cellars from the previous structure. With its stepped gable and crowning obelisk on the west side and its double portal on the east side in the style of the German Renaissance, it stands out as a prestigious residential, banqueting, and reception building, featuring the eponymous Dürnitz, a communal dining and dining room, located in the western half of the ground floor. Reflecting the castle's subsequent use as a residence, first for the unmarried Duke Frederick Achilles, son of Duke Frederick I, and later for the Württemberg-Neuenstadt branch of the family founded in 1649, the complex was expanded with the addition of the east wing and the elongated administrative building with stables and wine cellar to the west. The interior of the Dürnitz building was also remodeled in the Baroque style, as evidenced by the high-quality stucco ceilings on the second floor.
