Varied hilly route, in the afternoon more traffic on the road sections.

Emanuel Geibel lived at Escheberg Castle for two years and reached it after a hike from Lübeck. Here he composed the song "May has come", which can be read in the refuge. The pavilion with a beautiful view of the castle grounds and the golf course behind is unfortunately not signposted. You have to know much more that you can and may reach it via a steep meadow path. Once at the top, it is an ideal resting place in memory of the poet.

The Escheberg Castle and estate has been owned by the von der Malsburg family without interruption since 1018! The family history itself probably goes back even further and is related to the former Malsburg. The castle grounds are therefore privately owned and cannot be entered - with one exception: the castle park may be visited! It is important, however, that the palace park can only be entered through the main entrance at the orangery. The side gates are locked. The fact that Emanuel Geibel lived and wrote poetry there for two years also contributes to the important history of the castle. Ludwig Emil Grimm was also a guest here. They met in the manor house's Poetenstube, which has remained unchanged since then, and signed the guest book. Thanks to road traffic, the hike is only a limited pleasure, even if the castle is worth seeing.
