The extensively used mountain meadows with their small areas demarcated by hedges were declared a nature reserve at the end of the 1980s. Rare and highly endangered plants and animals have a protected habitat here.

Hirschberger Wiesensee: This pond is looked after and cared for by the Velmeden fishing club. Many Central European fish species such as perch, bream, carp, rainbow trout, roach, rudd, tench, catfish and zander can be found here. Free fishing and swimming are prohibited!

At the foot of Hohen Meißner, lonely in the middle of the forest, like its own little village, lies the Hirschberg riding stable.
