The Dortmund-Ems Canal is a canal structure and a federal waterway between the Dortmund city harbor and Papenburg/Ems in the federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony. The waterways and shipping offices for West German canals up to Gleesen and Ems-Nordsee up to Papenburg are responsible for its administration.

I have rarely seen such a great cycle path; it is a great place to cycle.

The paved stretches on the canal are just awesome, driving here is really fun, like on a motorway, and with a bit of luck you can watch the ships go by. Of course there is enough space for everyone here, but you should still be considerate.

At some point we found the Dortmund-Ems Canal boring and switched to the Ems cycle path north of Münster. Anyone who wants to do "kilometers" is in good hands here.
