Incredible views as you ride along Ennerdale Water

Not as daunting as some make out. Only put my hands down a couple of times the rest was just picking where to put your feet. Could be slippy when damp under foot.

The map will show you two ways to go. There is a scramble down on the left. On the right there is a pile of rocks. Take the right. The scramble down itself is tricky, but then you reach another scramble across two rocks to a path down below. The second scramble is difficult and very dangerous. Avoid it.

Ennerdale Water is beautiful all the way around with loads of great swimming spots and places to take in the views. Robin Hood's Chair though is probably the best, it sits slightly higher on Angler's Crag and therefore the water under this point is deeper. A good place to plan a stop on a run around the lake. The circuit is about 7 miles (11.5 km).

The only slightly tricky section of the circuit of Ennerdale. Not bad with good footwear but not ideal if you don't like heights. Great views.

Lovely quiet spot in the western Lake District. You won't see many people but don't tell anyone.

Here you'll find a very steep rocky bit to climb over. A bit tricky if you're with dogs.

Please don’t wild camp where you’re not allowed to. There is a lot of damage (particularly fire) on the edge of our beautiful Cumbrian lakes. It is actually illegal outside of Scotland or Dartmoor and as a minimum you need the landowners permission. Thanks.

A beautiful spot with great views along the lake. The trail is also great. Don't expect tarmac though, it is rocky and will not suit the less infirm.

As Millie said, Ennerdale is one of the quieter lake areas because it is in the Western Fells but it is gorgeous. There is good parking in the Bleach Green Car Park, a great lakeside trail and it is the start of routes up Haycock and three other Nuttalls along with 4-5 Wainwrights. Even a walk around the lake is a good outing for most people. Ohhh of course the views are stunning!

This rock on the shore of Ennerdale Water is known as Robin Hood's Chair and is a perfect spot to admire the tranquil surroundings around you.

Ennerdale Water is the most westerly of the lakes and it's also the most remote. As such, you are afforded a real sense of solitude here at any time of year, even in high season. The glacial lake is 2.5 miles (4 km) long, 0.75 miles (1 km) wide, and 148 feet (45 m) deep. The water is crystal clear and is a fantastic habitat for fish and wildlife.

Ennerdale is a great place to visit if you're looking to escape from the world. It's location means it's a bit out of the way, thankfully this means a lot less people. Small climb on otherwise very relaxed way around the lake. Nice view of the surroundings.

This is one of the least popular lakes in the Lake district but is still worth a visit having some amazing scenery.

This is such a beautiful beginning to what at times can be a gruelling ride. The trail along the north bank of Ennerdale Water is flat, peaceful and sheltered - a perfect place for a wild camp. It's best to make the most of it as it's the one of the only level sections around here!
