A source with a difference

Depending on your condition and time, the Heider Bergsee can be circumnavigated on a short walk of around six kilometers or combined with other waters in the Villeseen landscape on a longer hike.

The Heiderbergsee is one of more than two dozen bodies of water in the "Ville" between Brühl and Liblar, which offer hikers and cyclists a wonderful variety on their excursions through the forest. Historically, today's nature and landscape conservation area in the "Rhineland Nature Park" is a former mining area, where lignite was mined in opencast mines long ago.

The extremely iron-rich water has colored the subsoil rusty red. A great sight.

At the iron ocher spring at the end of the bay, a spring with iron ocher flocculation emerges from the gravel and sand.
