A visit to Diez Castle is highly recommended: Perched atop a volcanic keratophyre rock, this hilltop castle dates back to the second half of the 11th century and impressively overlooks the old town of Diez in Rhineland-Palatinate. Its location above the confluence of the Aar and Lahn rivers offers a breathtaking view and blends nature with history. The castle now houses the modern Museum and Historical Society for Diez and the Surrounding Area, featuring rotating exhibitions on geology, technology, and regional history, as well as a youth hostel – a combination that unites historical charm with tourist amenities. Access is easily made via the castle steps in the old town or via Schlossberg Street.
