The Martini Church has valuable treasures from its history. The wooden carved depiction of Saint Martin dates from the end of the 14th century. The 'Lamentation' of Christ comes from the Erfurt school of Tilman Riemenschneider, who is said to have carved the head of John himself. Four panels from the high altar of the early Gothic basilica have been preserved since 1420, carved from wood depicting the birth of Christ, the adoration of the three kings, the resurrection and Pentecost. Valuable figures of saints can be admired in the sacristy. Three letters of indulgence are also on display there today, the oldest of which was written in Rome in 1300. Little remains of the original building from the 12th century. The current building dates mainly from the 13th century. Martin Luther was the church's most famous speaker. In the basement of the church there is a two-aisled crypt (St. Elisabeth "in the gap").
