This is what defines the Altes Land: Fruit growing and shipping. The proximity to the Elbe River and the metropolis of Hamburg has shaped the Altes Land for centuries. Whether in spring during cherry blossom season or in summer and autumn during harvest time, visitors can discover a wealth of attractions here. Above all, the enchanting landscape, as well as cultural events and its sights, from the lighthouse to the Arp Schnitger organ. The Altes Land is a wonderful and unique region. It stretches from the outskirts of Hamburg for over 30 km south of the Elbe to the Hanseatic city of Stade. The area encompasses the entire municipality of Jork, the collective municipality of Lühe, and the Neu Wulmstorf district of Rübke in Lower Saxony, as well as the Hamburg districts of Neuenfelde, C.ranz, and Francop. The Elbe's tributaries—the Schwinge, the Lühe, and the Este—divide the Altes Land into three sections: the first, second, and third mile from west to east.

Buxtehude is a beautiful town with many sights and attractions. Many listed buildings are located, mostly in the harbor area and along the Fleth canal.

Jork is a highly recommended place in the Altes Land region. The old thatched-roof houses, some of which have been beautifully renovated, are a sight to behold. Many fruit growers have their farms in Jork and sell their produce at roadside stalls. Some of them also have farm cafés and host various events. Every year, Jork hosts the Butterkuchen Run, with the proceeds going to charity. Every participant receives a certificate, butterkuchen, and plenty of apples. The run isn't just for adults; children with their parents and dog owners with their pets also take part. There are staggered start times to prevent overcrowding. Walkers are also welcome at this event. Jork offers many other enjoyable events as well. A visit is highly recommended and interesting 👍🏼. Jork is a highly recommended place in the Altes Land region. The port of the Hanseatic city of Buxtehude is the navigable endpoint of the Este, a tributary of the Elbe. Mills and factories once thrived there. The port is the heart of the Hanseatic city of Buxtehude. Until the 19th century, it provided an important connection for long-distance traffic via the Lower Elbe. Industry was established in Buxtehude because of the port. The railway, which began operating in 1881, and later the road connection, displaced shipping traffic in Buxtehude. Around 1980, part of the port was built over with the harbor bridge. Nevertheless, historical buildings have been preserved, such as the customs office built in 1870 at Moortorstraße 2, which is very beautiful to look at 👍🏼. The waters of the Este once powered the Flethmühle (Fleth Mill) in the city center of Buxtehude. Below that point, the Fleth was tide-dependent and navigable for barges of up to 100 tons until 1972.
