A nice paved road with few trafic connects the village of Laze pri Gorenjem Jezeru to the eastern shore of Cerknisko Jezero and the village of Zerovnica - right through the lake.

The Drvošec trail runs from the Rešeto gullies and ends about 500 m before the bridge in front of the village of Otok. The path mostly runs through the forest and, with its length of 3.7 km (one way), is suitable for anyone who just makes sure they wear suitable footwear. The route through the unspoiled nature of Cerkni Lake is enriched by numerous informational or didactic points (food web, lynx climbing, silhouette of a bear and a wolf). The most valuable are the views from the observation points Kuharac, Klejni vrh and from the 10-meter high tower Otočec, which offer a view of the extraordinary dimensions of this karst phenomenon. To spice up your visit, we recommend that you explore the trail with the Lake Adventure. The route is marked with pictograms of the drumming bird, which you can follow on the signs on the posts along the entire route.

The ephemeral lake of Cerknica / Circonio is a spectacle: a real lake during the rainy season, a fertile plain during the dry ones.

Lake Cerknica is one of the largest intermittent lakes in Europe; it appears every year on the karst polje (plain), caught between the Javorniki hills and the Bloke plateau on one side, and Mount Slivnica on the other. During the dry season, the lake disappears.
