Payerne enchants with its exciting history and rich culture! The small town is home to the largest Romanesque church in Switzerland from the 11th century, the Abgbatiale de Payerne. This makes the community a magnet for pilgrims and history fans. In addition to its buildings, the small Vaud town offers numerous sporting and cultural activities, as well as several museums and a climbing park.

In the heart of the Chanéaz national forest, the educational trail allows each visitor to understand the basics of the fascinating and eclectic world of mushrooms. It is in the forest of Chanéaz, where more than 500 species of mushrooms have been listed, that around thirty explanatory and illustrated panels form the mycological trail. Each of them provides, in simple and non-scientific terms, a great deal of information, particularly on the morphology of mushrooms, the different deadly or edible species or even the right reflexes for successful picking. The hill of Montagny, a strategic point that controlled part of the Broye valley, has been inhabited since ancient times. But due to the lack of systematic excavations, it is impossible to obtain precise information about this period. Several archaeological discoveries confirm that the region has been inhabited since the Mesolithic period. The first evidence dates from the beginning of the 12th century, when Ulrich, Lord of Belp and Montagny, is mentioned under the patronage of Zaehringen. The origin of the lordship of Montagny certainly dates back to 1146. Ulrich's two sons, Conrad of Montagny and Rudolph of Belp, lived in a primitive castle in Montagny. At the time, it was a square tower to which a wooden structure was attached, surrounded by a palisade or rampart.
