It is nice to walk around the lake. Around half of the walk has dedicated roadside pedestrian walk path and gravel footpath and the other half you need to share it with the cars, but there is little traffic. It is between 22.4 - 23.0km long and has multiple public toilets, few restaurants and shops during the walk.

The Sihlsee is the largest reservoir in Switzerland in terms of area, but due to its shallow depth it does not have a very large volume. There are many opportunities for biking and hiking on both sides of the lake. The lake tour is popular with racing cyclists.
