The old town of Königsberg impresses with its wonderful half-timbered houses.

This stately half-timbered house, built in 1706, stands on the corner of "Goldene Röhrengasse." The builder must have been a pious man, because he had three medallions with mysterious, carved letter sequences attached to the house. The letters are then grouped together in a square and arranged so that, when read from top to bottom and crisscross, they form the same sequences as in the medallions. The meaning of the letter sequences is difficult to guess. But it has been handed down. The pious sayings that result from them point to the house owner's Christian stance. Königsberg originated around 1180 as a result of the construction of a castle on the "King's Vineyard" (for the castle, see: Königsberg Castle), presumably on the land of an old Frankish royal domain.
