This is a cool public dock that you can walk out onto. You'll have to hop off and push your bike, but it's cool to be able to walk out onto the Mississippi River and look up and down the waterway.

The Levee Bike Trail follows the Mississippi River south of Baton Rouge. It sticks close to the banks of the river and doesn't really offer any shade since it is in the open the entire time. The path is completely paved and is more popular for cyclists than runners and walkers.

You might want to hop off your bike and push it across the wooden bridge if someone else is on the bridge (it can be a tight squeeze if you go 2 wide). There is a cool view up and down the river feeding the bayous and wetlands here on the coast.

The Covington Trailhead serves as the northern terminus of the Tammany Trace, and Camp Salmen Nature Park serves as the southern terminus. Traveling from Slidell to Covington, Louisiana, the Tammany Trace is widely used as a commuter trail as well as an access path to other parks and trails. The trail is paved the entire way with a few bridges and road crossings.

This pleasant park in the heart of Uptown New Orleans is mostly frequented by residents and students from the nearby Tulane and Loyola universities, although tourists also come to admire its magnificent oak trees. The park has a 1.8-mile paved loop that is most useful for jogging and rollerblading but can be cycled as well for a quick tour of the park.

It is not uncommon to find this section of River Road completely flooded. If that is the case, your only option is to cross the spillway via Airline Highway, using LA-3217 to minimize the detour.

This bridge, officially called the Veterans Memorial Bridge, is the last of a series of bridges built to reduce ferry crossings after a tragic ferry accident in the 70s caused by a drunk crew. It was the newest bridge over the Mississippi in Louisiana until the completion of the John James Audubon Bridge in 2011.

Also known as Milneburg Lighthouse, the name of the resort town that was erected here in the early 19th century. The lighthouse was built as part of a series of federal lighthouses with the purpose of navigational aid to the new ports on the southern shore of Lake Pontchartrain.
