The construction of the arsenal began under Doge Ordelaf Falier in 1104. The property consisted of two swampy islands in the Castello district. This shipyard, which can be considered the largest manufacturing plant in Europe before the age of industrialization, became a model for other naval arsenals in Europe.

It is definitely worth a visit. The area is partially a military restricted area or protected area. You can only get in after a security check. A visit to the adjacent Giardini Bienalle is worthwhile. Take a break there in the Cafe la Serra and unwind.
