Charcoal burning is an ancient craft, now almost extinct, but in the past it was a crucial factor in the industrialization of entire regions: The blast furnaces of the iron and steel industry, for example, relied on charcoal to reach the operating temperature necessary for smelting ore. As a consequence, however, entire regions were once completely deforested by charcoal burning, and it is only thanks to later reforestation efforts that forests have regrown and nature can be seen again.

The remains of the small fort can be clearly seen in the forest. It was about 40 m x 40 m in size and consisted of a gate to the north with two towers. The remains were uncovered by archaeologists in 2007 and 2008.

The Limes palisade, a replica, stands near the small fort in the Anhausen district. It was reconstructed and rebuilt. The remains of the palisade can be easily understood based on the remains.
