A brochure from the parish of St. Martin in Root provides information on the history of the power place Michael's Cross: "Around 1,500 years ago, the pious Medardus decided to build a wooden hut in the Meggerwald forest to live there. While he was busy felling trees, a boy came to him and asked Medardus to take two tree trunks on his shoulders and follow him. After a four-hour hike, the two arrived at a hill near Root. There, the boy asked the hermit to build a cross from the two trunks. With the words: 'I am the Archangel Michael, sent by my Lord Jesus Christ to mark and consecrate this place with the sign of the holy cross,' the boy took on the form of the Archangel Michael. Since then, the hill on which the chapel stands today has been called Michael's Cross.

The later court lord Johann Martin Schwytzer (1634–1713) from Lucerne, who lived at Buonas Castle from 1654 onwards, personally cared for the Buonas church with great devotion. In 1662, he had the Bishop of Constance consecrate it to the chapel's founder in honor of its patron saint, German. He also donated the side altars and the furnishings of the sacristy, among other things, and oversaw the building's maintenance.

Here at the venerable pool, you can sunbathe on a spacious and well-maintained lawn, with shady trees along the edge of the green area. There is also a long row of changing rooms, but swimming in the lake is at your own risk. The Wildenmann lakeside pool has a kiosk serving food. The aim is to offer high-quality food. Here, you can choose from the salad buffet, one of three daily menus, or order entrecôte or fish from Lake Zug. The pool is open from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., depending on weather conditions, from mid-May to mid-September.

This chapel has several donors to thank for its current form. The first of them, the Zug clergyman German Wetzstein (+ 1638), made his namesake the chapel's patron saint. The second donor and main benefactor of the chapel, the judge Johann Martin Schwytzer (1634-1713), dedicated the right of the two side altars he had commissioned to one of his namesakes, St. Martin. And he had his (alliance) coat of arms prominently displayed on both side altars. We find him himself as the donor figure in a kneeling position, with folded hands and a rosary on the main altarpiece.
