The Büttelberg (528 m) is part of the European watershed. Coming from Marktbergel, you can see the Bavarian Broadcasting's transmitter mast (220 m) on the mountain from afar. Up until this point, the water flows via streams to the Regnitz, then into the Main, the Rhine, and finally into the North Sea. But less than 10 km further west, for example, the Altmühl rises, flows into the Danube, and with it into the Black Sea!☝🏻

Carved into the rock in 1860 as a beer cellar for the Schwarzer Adler inn, it now serves as a wintering ground for bats. This ensures that this culturally and historically significant example of Franconian brewing is preserved and serves as a nature conservation site.
