Almodóvar del Río Castle, an imposing building located on a hill, El Redondo, near the Guadalquivir River and about 25 kilometers from Córdoba. Almodóvar Castle has recently seen even more visitors due to its location in the filming of the famous series "Game of Thrones." Because it is so well preserved, many directors have their eyes on this fortress.

Castillo de Almodóvar del Río (Hisnu-l-mudawar; "the round castle") is a castle of Arab Muslim origin in the town of Almodóvar del Río, Province of Córdoba, Spain. Previously a Roman fort, the current structure is of Arab Umayyad origin, in the year 760. During the Middle Ages, it underwent several renovations and reconstructions. Between 1901 and 1936, it was restored by the owner Raphael Desmaissiers, 12th Count of Torravala, under the technical direction of the architect Adolfo Fernández Casanova. The most important towers are the Cuadrada, the Redonda, and the Homenaje.

The castle "Castillo de Almodóvar" is an impressive fortress that stands prominently on the El Redondo hill. In the 20th century, the castle was extensively restored by Rafael Desmaissières y Farina, Count of Torralva. This work gave the castle its current striking appearance, which seems very medieval, although many elements have been reconstructed. The castle was used for the filming of the series Game of Thrones. It served as the backdrop for Highgarden, the seat of House Tyrell. In October 2024, the seventh edition of the Age of Empires tournament sponsored by Red Bull took place in the castle under the name "Red Bull Wololo El Reinado".

The Castillo de Almodóvar del Río, also known as Castillo de la Floresta, is located near the town of Almodóvar del Río and is a well-preserved and lavishly restored castle. The castle was built by the Moors in the 8th century for strategic reasons and was completed in the 12th century. It's really worth a visit. It feels like you can visit every little tower and many rooms. You can move around freely and it's a great place for children. With lots of "little things" the visit becomes an experience. People walk around in costumes. At one point medieval music is played. Then a legend is told and you can try your hand at being Arthur on one of the towers. And these are just a few of the great ideas. The GoT filming locations are documented in photos.

In the North of the Province of Córdoba, and following the local road CO-5314 that enters the Sierra de Hornachuelos, in the municipality of Posadas we find an old mining exploitation "Las Minas de la Plata", which despite its Abandoned state, it has become an obligatory route for hikers and hikers thanks to its great scenic beauty. At the foot of the road we find a series of abandoned buildings belonging to the Spanish-German company Sociedad Especial Minera Santa Bárbara, which was responsible for the exploitation of the mine at the end of the 19th century. These mines, which were already exploited by the Romans, were closed in 1914 due to World War I, since the material obtained was melted down in Belgium and with the war they could no longer be transported to the foundries.
