"By Resolution 60/7, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on November 1, 2005, January 27 was declared the International Day of Remembrance in Rememberance of the Victims of the Holocaust. This date was chosen to commemorate the liberation of Auschwitz in 1945 and to call humanity to reflect on the atrocities of the past. Auschwitz was chosen because it was the largest of the concentration and extermination camps established by the Nazis. More than 1.1 million people, mostly Jews, were murdered there and their bodies cremated. Reflecting on these horrific events should keep the memory of the past alive and serve as a warning for the future." (Rabbi Abraham Skorka)

The church was built in 1934 on the site of the previous one. The church was seriously damaged during the war, and immediately afterwards it was devastated and stolen. However, it was saved from demolition and converted into a Roman Catholic church. In 1956 it underwent renovation. In 1987, Greek Catholic services were resumed there. In 1992, it was thoroughly renovated again. The temple still serves Catholics of two rites - it belongs to the Greek Catholic parish in Komańcza and the Roman Catholic parish in Polany.

Ostra (687 m above sea level) is a peak within the Jaślicki Landscape Park. The northern slope is located within the Przełom Jasiołki nature reserve. We can get there via the green trail "St. John's Hermitage - Porubské sedlo" or as an extension of the nature trail "W Przełomie Jasiołki".
