The Nepomuk Chapel in Wels is a venerable example of Baroque architecture and a significant piece of cultural heritage, honoring Saint John of Nepomuk. This saint, venerated as the patron saint of log drivers, reminds us of the deep-rooted tradition of timber transport on the Traun River, which was of great importance to the region. Erected in 1732 by the log drivers' guild, the chapel stands on the south side of the building at Traungasse 12, the former site of the Traun Gate. The special devotion to Saint Nepomuk is evident not only in the weighty statue, donated around 1718 by Gottlieb Nester, but also in the artistic design of the building itself. The restoration in 1964, during which the chapel was rotated 90 degrees, underscores the commitment to preserving this cultural asset and making it accessible to visitors. A visit to the Nepomuk Chapel offers the opportunity to immerse oneself in the history and spirituality of the rafting tradition and to experience the beauty of the Baroque era. The bridge plays an important role in regional development. It closes gaps in the cycle path network and creates a direct north-south connection that also connects to supra-regional cycle routes. Wels Castle Garden is a beautiful garden. It is very well maintained, with beautiful plants and trees. I visited it this week and was truly amazed at how wonderful and calming it is. Many thanks to the city of Wels and the gardeners for their outstanding work.

Wels Castle is essentially a medieval building. It was the residence of the emperor's stewards. The most significant event in its history was the death of Maximilian I, known as the Last Knight. The castle houses the Wels City History Museum. It showcases the city's history from Roman times to the 21st century through fascinating exhibits. There are also films for illustrative purposes. The museum is also easily accessible with a wheelchair or stroller.
