The fact that a Christian house of worship - essentially encompassing the whole of heaven - is consecrated "ALL SAINTS" is not that common; it is usually one (or occasionally two) named saints who are the patron saint of a church - and therefore usually also over the municipality or town in which it is located. But in search of the origin you have to go far back into history, because the model for this practice of dedicating to ALL SAINTS can be seen as a pagan custom, according to which there were already central temples in pre-Christian times that were generally dedicated to all deities (PANTHEON). were consecrated. Probably the most famous Pantheon, a former pagan temple and now a Christian place of worship, is located in the Italian capital.

Sheet is a ‘chocolate box’ village just outside Petersfield. The village green is a great place to stop with a huge tree surrounded by a bench, traditional cottages, a village hall and a pub.

The Harrow is a quaint little pub nestled on the outskirts of steep. The pub is cash only and has very limited opening hours. If you catch it between 12-2pm the food is excellent and there is plenty of bike storage outside.

One of the cutest little pubs you will find, laying on a gravel road with public toilets just opposite, the pub are super bike friendly and serve excellent food. They only take cash so make sure you have some!

It is believed that the first church on this site was built before the establishment of Petersfield as a town. It was possibly founded by Queen Matilda, wife of William the Conqueror, who owned the Manor of Mapledurham (Mapledresham) for some years but died shortly before the Domesday survey of 1086. Petersfield is an attractive market town on the historic coach road from London to Portsmouth. Today, it is a marvellous base for adventures in the vibrant South Downs National Park. The town itself has a number of excellent cafes, restaurants and pubs, as well as plenty of places to rest your head at night. The mainline station can whisk you off to London in just a little over an hour.
