The Lautzebachweiher pond, better known to the people of Dautphetal as the paddling pond, in the forest between Dautphe and Silberg, is a beautiful destination in any season. In spring, hundreds of tadpoles can be observed growing on the pond's shore. A forest sofa overlooking the water invites you to relax. This investigation revealed that two former heathland areas near Dautphe, measuring 0.8 and 1.3 hectares respectively, remained where regeneration seemed promising. Implementation of the planning began in 2002, the year in which the juniper was declared 'Tree of the Year'. The municipality of Dautphetal, as the owner of the land, supported the project and thus replenished its municipal ecological account. In the spring of 2004, the then Gladenbach Forestry Office carried out extensive clearing measures. Low-growing pines were preserved as landscape-defining trees. Heißen Rück and Bomhöhe Dautphe Juniper heaths on open hilltops characterized the landscape of the Marburg hinterland in earlier years. Created primarily by sheep grazing, these habitats not only provided a habitat for many now rare animal and plant species, but their openness also provided attractive visual connections within the respective districts. With the increasing industrialization of agriculture, the cultivation of the juniper heaths in their original form was no longer profitable, so many areas were cleared and overgrown with scrub or reforested with pine trees. However, in order to preserve the juniper heaths in the Marburg hinterland, which are also important from a European perspective, and to fulfill the district's special responsibility for this habitat, the Lower Nature Conservation Authority initiated an investigation of the poorly-grown sites in the municipality of Dautphetal.
