Update March 15, 2025: This nature reserve is not worth a visit because of the extremely polluted environment by litter. During the entire walk there is both waste washed up by the sea and dumped on site. Very sad to see…

The natural oasis Torre Guaceto stands for beautiful sea and lots of nature. The landmark is this Aragonese tower Torre Guaceto

The Torre di Guaceto is a watchtower built in the 16th century by the Aragonese to defend themselves against Saracen raids. In the 18th century it played an important role for Venetian and Spanish merchant traffic in the Adriatic Sea, until its decline in the 19th century. Today it is located within the Torre Guaceto Nature Reserve, and houses a WWF headquarters with a small museum.

The Torre Guaceto Nature Reserve is a protected area in Salento near Brindisi, established in 1991 to conserve marine and terrestrial biodiversity. In addition to the various white sandy beaches awarded with the Blue Flag, there is an Aragonese tower which dominates the landscape and which can be reached on foot or by bike.

Reserve has limited areas for bikers. Scenic with variety of flora.Three bike trails lead to sea. Many more bike trails west of freeway with two passages under the freeway to reach east or west lands Most west trails are packed dirt so avoid wet weather. No stores for food or water. Road from Brindisi along Adriatic is good paved and scenic with several interesting parks, beaches,coves. Light vehicle traffic for the 16 k to Reserve.

Service road system that runs alongside the state road 379 through the Torre Guaceto State Nature Reserve, and which allows you not to pedal along the road prohibited for bicycles. To reach the sea, the beaches and the tower inside the Reserve, the roads are all gravel or dirt roads, not very suitable for racing bikes.
