Laufenburg was first documented in 1173, when the monastery in Säckingen granted the town as a fief to the Habsburgs. The first documented mention of Loufenberc dates back to 1207; the place name means "mountain near the waterfall, near the whirlpool, near the rapids" (Wikipedia).

Nice bridge, but be careful when turning left or right into bicycle lane.

Laufenburg is a small but beautifully preserved town right on the Rhine. There isn't a huge amount to see, but what there is is lovely.

In the evening, you may be blinded by the low sun as you cruise downstream along the Rhine.

The elevated location of Laufenburg in Baden, especially from the "Kriegerdenkmal" (War Memorial), the "Schlössle" (Little Castle), and the "Kirche Heilig Geist" (Holy Spirit Parish Church), offers a fantastic view of the two Laufenburgs, the Rhine, and the surrounding countryside. An urban dream, surrounded by lush greenery.

St. Martin's Church, Rheinfelden The Christian Catholic town church of St. Martin in Rheinfelden is also called the "treasure trove of the Fricktal". Nowhere else have more lavishly decorated interiors been preserved. The church was first built in the early 11th century. In 1228, with the approval of Bishop Heinrich of Basel, the St. Martin's Canonry was founded, which, as it grew, gave rise to further renovation work. At the end of the 18th century, the interior, windows and roof were redesigned in the late Baroque style. The sacristy was left in the Gothic style. For this purpose, artists from the region were hired to restore the church to its former glory. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, construction work was mainly focused on extensive renovations. Towards the end of the 20th century, the church was restored using modern methods under the supervision of the monument preservation authorities (work on the exterior 1978-1980, on the interior 1986-1992). The aim was to achieve the best possible representation of the condition in 1772. St. Martin's Church is unique in its kind and a must for visitors interested in culture.
