Egeskov Castle is a major tourist attraction in Denmark because it is the most beautiful and best-preserved moated castle in all of Europe. For over 450 years, Egeskov has been situated in a scenic setting in the south of the island of Funen. The main building, completely surrounded by water, was built by Frands Brockenhuus and completed in 1554. He was a wealthy landowner and needed a fortress that was difficult to conquer to protect against raids, so he had it built in the middle of a marshy area. To fortify the foundation, an entire oak forest was felled, and the piles were driven into the lake bed. Egeskov Castle is a highly impressive moated castle located in Kværndrup on the Danish island of Funen. The building, still characterized by medieval features, has transformed over the course of its history from a late Gothic moated castle with an interior that already boasts a Renaissance design to a comfortable country manor. The building is surrounded by extensive gardens (the largest historic garden complex in Denmark), and several museums are located on the castle grounds. The castle was built by the High Marshal Frands Brockenhuus (1518–1569) and completed in 1554. The most important part of the museum complex is the Renaissance castle itself. It features approximately ten magnificent rooms spread over two floors and an exhibition area in the attic. A large number of exotic hunting trophies testify to the hunting passion of a former lord of the castle. Furniture, paintings, musical instruments, porcelain, and many other works of art document the long history of the house, now owned by Count Michael Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille. The museum's most famous exhibit is the very large dollhouse "Titania's Palace," named after the fairy queen Titania. The English officer Sir Neville Wilkinson spent more than 15 years building this unique work of art. The sinking of the Brockenhuus Brockenhuus left Egeskov to his son, the highly educated Laurids Brockenhuus, who, like his father, served both in the war and as lord of Nyborg. Laurids Brockenhuus became known for his severity towards his daughter Rigborg. He had her locked in a room on Egeskov when she became pregnant out of wedlock with Lieutenant Frederik Rosenkrantz during her service with the country's queen at the court of Christian IV. Laurid's widow, Karen Skram, passed the farm on to her daughter's husband, Hans Pogwisch. Pogwisch traded Egeskov for an estate on Lolland in 1615 when Egeskov fell into the hands of the brothers Jakob and Frands Ulfeldt. The Ulfeldt family was one of the most important noble families of the 17th century - of which the Chancellor Jakob Ulfeldt and later his son Corfitz Ulfeldt, who was convicted as a traitor, particularly stood out.

On the weekends from mid-November to early December there is a beautiful Christmas market (Julemarked) in Egeskov Castle Park. However, there is an entrance fee to the Christmas market and the castle is closed during this time. The Christmas market is located on the castle park grounds as well as in the museums located there.
