St. Elizabeth's Church – Blue Church, Bratislava Officially called the Church of St. Elizabeth of Hungary, it is commonly known simply as "the Blue Church." The early 20th-century Secession Church of St. Elizabeth is characterized by its distinctive blue color. This is why it is popularly known as the Blue Church. Both the interior and exterior of the church are painted in light blue and decorated with blue majolica; the roof is covered with blue-glazed ceramic tiles. A 36.8-meter-high round tower is part of the structure. Its façade is dominated by an elaborate mosaic. Completed in 1913, the church was built by the renowned Budapest architect Ödön Lechner in the Secession style with oriental elements. The Grassalkovich Palace is the residence of the President of the Slovak Republic. It was built in 1760 by the architect Andreas Mayerhoffer for Count Antal Grassalkovich I, President of the Royal Hungarian Court Chamber, along with a baroque garden (behind the building and now freely accessible). Immediately after the incorporation of Bratislava into the new Czechoslovak state on January 1, 1919, the palace housed the command of the 33rd Regiment of the Czechoslovak Legions, which received city representatives there. As property of the Habsburgs, the young Czechoslovak Republic confiscated the property.
