The castle has an eventful history, with its origins dating back to 1331. Compared to other castles at home and abroad, Dussen Castle is modest in size. But that is precisely why it has a unique charm that many visitors embrace when they enter the courtyard after the bridge and gate. The courtyard is beautifully enclosed by a colonnade from the seventeenth century, which is rare in the northern Netherlands. This creates a romantic and intimate atmosphere. There are weekly guided tours, for both individuals and groups. The costs are €3 for adults and €2 for children. From 1 October to 31 March, a guided tour starts every 2nd Sunday of the month at 14:00 & 15:00. From 1 April to 30 September, a guided tour starts every Sunday at 13:00, 14:00, 15:00 and 16:00.

The small river Dussen is beautifully situated here in a picturesque location with old farms along it and bridges over it.

Near the village of Meeuwen stands De Witte Molen: the pride of the village! The round stone ground corn mill was built in 1740. At the beginning of the 20th century it was the first mill in the region to be equipped with so-called streamlined sails: this increased the efficiency of the mill. There was a time in the previous century that the mill no longer ground, but after a restoration it has been in use again since 1995.

Enjoy a wonderful view over the serene Bergsche Maas. A beautiful piece of nature dug by human hands. From the point where the river De Donge flows into the Bergsche Maas (near Geertruidenberg) the water carries a different name: De Amer.

A touch of Italy in the Biesbosch: in Dussen Castle you will feel like you are in Tuscany! In 1387, an existing residential tower was converted into a castle. However, the castle was destroyed during the St. Elizabeth's flood in 1421. It was rebuilt in 1456, but the castle also had an eventful history in the centuries that followed. The Capelse ferry across the Maas was already established in 1633 by Lord Jan van Drongelen to reach Waalwijk. After digging the Bergse Maas, a bridge was built over the Oude Maasje and a steam ferry was used to cross the Bergse Maas, so that the Langstraat could be reached. As with the Bernse ferry and the Drongelens ferry, the crossings were free. This was promised to farmers and local residents when the Bergse Maas was dug. In the 1990s, the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management decided that the ferries were no longer part of the Dutch main infrastructure and wanted to get rid of them. In 2001, the ministry decided that cars and trucks would have to pay for the ferry. This led to a lot of resistance, all the way to the Council of State. After a number of years of negotiations, the springs were transferred to the relevant municipalities at the beginning of 2009. The actual implementation, ownership and management of the springs were then assigned by the municipalities to the Bergsche Maasveren Foundation.
