The tower is still slanted due to a failed attempt to destroy the building with explosives before the German troops withdrew. The bunker is four storeys high and contains openings for observation and range finding. The internal staircases have been removed for security reasons, so that only the ground floor is accessible. Inside the bunker you can still see the remains of the iron doors and loopholes. .

The Leaning Tower of Oye-Plage is a German blockhouse from the Second World War, designed to imitate a church steeple and mislead British aviators. Located a few kilometers north of the real bell tower, it resisted post-war demolition attempts, remaining tilted about twenty degrees, hence its nickname.
