The Bürgerpark (Citizens' Park) in the heart of Bremerhaven, just a short walk from the main train station, offers a wide range of recreational opportunities. Lake Bülter is a so-called "dystrophic" lake in a peat bog. It lies approximately two kilometers northeast of Heerstedt in the Cuxhaven district of Lower Saxony, Germany. The area was designated a nature reserve in 1982. The lake is completely surrounded by raised bog and has been considered one of the last remaining undisturbed raised bog lakes in northern Germany since the 1980s. Due to its location within a nature reserve, Lake Bülter enjoys special protection. To ensure its natural preservation, certain prescribed rules of conduct apply. Swimming is only permitted in designated areas or is prohibited entirely. Leaving the marked paths and entering the shoreline area may also be prohibited. To fully appreciate this unique landscape with its diverse wildlife, it is recommended to familiarize yourself with the regionally applicable rules of conduct within the nature reserve. Bülter See and Marginal Moors Nature Reserve Nature Reserve "Bülter See and Marginal Moors" Identification: Nature Reserve LÜ 050 Bülter See is a nutrient-poor raised bog lake surrounded by raised bog areas. The nature reserve encompasses parts of the following bogs: Bülter Moor, Großes Moor, Schwarzes Moor, Flittereschmoor, and Seemoor. The lake's littoral zone consists primarily of beak sedge meadows, soft rush stands, and narrow-leaved cottongrass-spike sphagnum moss communities. The northern and eastern shores generally lack vegetation, resulting in steep banks up to 1.5 meters high. The surrounding bog areas have been impacted by peat extraction. Downy birch and purple moor grass characterize the landscape. Where possible, the grassland areas within the reserve are acquired by the public sector to allow for the abandonment of their use and the renaturation of the bog through water retention. A good way for hiking

On the bike path between Schiffdorf and Spaden, you'll find the lock. The Geeste River flows alongside it. A restaurant is located directly to the right of the bridge. A great bike path leads along the Geeste to Bremerhaven. Highly recommended 👍.
