The planetary trail is a scaled-down replica of our solar system, where the sizes and distances of the sun and its planets are represented at a scale of 1:1 billion. In this scaled-down version, the distance between the sun and Pluto is 6 km, which corresponds to 6 billion (6,000,000,000) km in space. The sun, with a diameter of 1.39 m, stands out clearly against our Earth, a tiny sphere measuring only 1.3 cm. The dwarf planet Pluto, even smaller than Earth's moon, is the smallest celestial body depicted, measuring just 2 mm. Following the redefinition of the term "planet," Pluto was demoted to a dwarf planet with the number 134340 on August 24, 2006. Since then, our solar system officially consists of only eight planets and the dwarf planets Pluto, Eris, and Ceres. The Planet Trail begins at the Sun Station in Ludwigsburg-Eglosheim, approximately 200 meters north of Favoritepark on Seeschlossallee, not far from the "Favoritepark" S-Bahn station. The trail continues north past Monrepos Palace to Wilhelmshof, through the Brandholz forest, and on to the southern edge of the Bietigheim Forest. From this point, the Bietigheim-Bissingen S-Bahn station is about 2 kilometers away.

On a hill right next to the water tower is the old cemetery for the home for the disabled, which is located very close by.
