The history of Falkenstein Castle is as old as the settlement of the Weinviertel itself. The castle was built under Emperor Heinrich III in the middle of the 11th century. As a border fortress to the north, it once protected the country from attacks from Bohemia and Hungary. The first lords of Falkenstein were fief takers from the Babenbergs. For centuries, Falkenstein Castle was a sovereign feudal lordship and pledge until it came into private ownership in 1571. In 1645 the castle was conquered by the Swedes, but not destroyed. The decay did not begin until the end of the 17th century. Under the current owner Georg Thurn-Vrints, the castle ruins were reopened to visitors and an association for preservation was founded. The Falkenstein castle ruins are under monument protection, and archaeological excavations are occasionally carried out under the direction of the Federal Monuments Office. In summer, the large tournament courtyard becomes an atmospheric setting for various festivals and events. The old walls reveal their secrets during a guided tour. You will learn interesting facts about the building history of the castle and its inhabitants and you can visit a natural cave in the limestone. Burggwölb In an intact vault from the 13th century, a medieval plaque and a small museum with finds illustrate life in the Middle Ages.

Falkenstein Catholic Church (St. Jakobus the Elder), The Falkenstein parish was one of the thirteen large main and mother parishes founded around 1050. In 1122 the Falkenstein parish was first mentioned in connection with the Klosterneuburg monastery. The parish church stands above the village on the slope of the castle hill. The ruins of the former castle tower above it. There is nothing left of the original parish church. The shape of the present church dates from the second half of the 17th century. The tower, however, belongs to the Gothic construction period. The nave of the church has a five-bay barrel vault. The presbytery has been drawn in a little. The artistically most valuable piece is a sandstone statue of Our Lady from the 14th century. The facade is divided into three floors and is adorned with thirteen larger-than-life statues. Christ in the middle and on top and then graduated the twelve apostles. This facade creates a tremendous impression, which is reinforced by the staircase leading up to the main portal.
