Early settlements near Westum are documented by (grave) finds from pre-Roman and Roman times. First mention of the place and development of the place name The first documented mention of the place can be found in the Golden Book of Prüm Abbey in the Eifel region: In a donation from Emperor Louis I the Pious (778-840), he granted a vassal Robert estates in Ribuarien (Rhine Franconia) in 836, including property in Uistrikisheim (or Wistrikesheim, see westum.de).
