The Heinrichsbrunnen (Heinrich's Fountain) is located on Heinrichsplatz (St. Henry's Square) in a pedestrian zone in front of the Meissen City Museum, next to the Franciscan Church. The fountain, dating from 1863, is a replica of a medieval market fountain, featuring a statue of King Henry I (919-936) holding a model of a castle in his arms. Heinrichsplatz and Heinrichsbrunnen thus commemorate the German King Henry I, who built a border fortification on the Meissen castle hill in 929, which later became the Imperial Castle Misni (Meissen). The Heinrichsbrunnen (Heinrich's Fountain) was inaugurated on April 23, 1863, with the unveiling of the statue. The historical circular trail in Meissen is an approximately 1.2 km long walking path at the foot of the castle hill, offering beautiful views of the old town and the Elbe River. It connects the area around the Cathedral Square and the Albrechtsburg Castle with the Amtsstufen (official steps). Along the way, panels provide information on the history of the castle complex, and you pass the Granary, the Stone Bridge, and the Middle Gatehouse.

The Albrechtsburg Castle on the castle hill in Meissen is one of the most famous late Gothic architectural monuments and is considered the first palace built in Germany. Starting in 1471, the Wettin Electors and Dukes of Saxony had a residential palace built there on the site of an older medieval castle. In 1710, the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory moved in. After 1864, the castle was remodeled again, and numerous rooms were decorated with historical paintings. The first Meissen Elbe bridge was documented in the 13th century, and the Meissen Cathedral, St. Afra Monastery, and a city wall were also built at that time. Outside of this, on the other side of the Triebisch River, lay the Neumarkt (New Market), where a Jewish community had settled, which had been exterminated in 1349. In the 15th century, the bourgeois half-timbered houses gave way to larger stone buildings. During this period, the Meissen Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) was rebuilt, as were the town hall and the Franciscan church. Furthermore, the city wall, which had largely been demolished in the 16th century, was reinforced. In the 16th century, a hospital existed in what is now the old town, which was supplied with water by canals. During the Thirty Years' War, numerous Meissen residents fell victim to the plague, and a fire set by Swedish troops destroyed over half of the old town.

The Old Town is the historic city center of Meissen. Because of the bishops and margraves of Meissen who once resided there, it is of outstanding cultural importance for Saxony. In the 10th century, only the fortifications existed on the site of today's Albrechtsburg Castle. A forded outpost toward the Elbe River, it was protected by an outer bailey known as a moated castle. Immediately south of both, a trading center developed at what is now Theaterplatz. A little further west, on the Afraberg, knights and clergy settled on Freiheit Street. Between 1150 and 1200, the built-up area expanded to include the remaining area between Theaterplatz, Albrechtsburg Castle, Afraberg, and Triebisch. The market and the streets leading from it emerged here; the street network laid out at that time has remained essentially unchanged to this day. Numerous artisans settled here.

Großenhain City Park. This well-maintained park invites visitors to linger with its pond, seating areas, pleasant paths, and more. The well-marked Via Regia pilgrimage route also passes through here. Information: Laid out as a public park between 1875 and 1893, it now offers numerous recreational opportunities in a green setting. The park was severely damaged by a tornado in May 2010 and has since been completely redesigned. The Wilhelmine Bridge spans the Große Röder River in Großenhain City Park. It features a wrought-iron railing with the bridge's name inscribed on it.
