The Fleckenskirche, probably the oldest hall church in the Osnabrück region, was founded in 1226 by Bishop Engelbert I for the settlement at Irburg Castle. It was partly financed by merchants who lived under the protection of the castle on the way from Osnabrück to Münster and worshipped St. Nicholas. During renovation work in the 1970s, Gothic windows from the 14th century were discovered, as well as the men's and women's gates. Originally a parish church, it was due to be demolished in 1807, but was saved by the citizens and has served as a branch church since 1837.

The title is misleading, in my opinion. The road doesn't lead through a forest, but rather over flat asphalt through the scenic Hoperdorp Valley. Beautiful corrugated iron profile with expansive views 🥰👍
