The Isarsteg Nord 2015 opens for pedestrians and cyclists

The Moosach Opening in Freising marks the uncovering of the city stream on Obere Hauptstraße, which had previously been covered for around 130 years. Following a decision in 2019, the construction phase began in 2020 and was completed with a ceremonial opening in May 2023. For a stretch of around 200 meters, the Moosach now flows openly again through the old town, inviting visitors to linger with its seating and steps directly by the water. High-quality natural stone paving and artistic elements, such as those by the artist Elke Härtel, give the area a special atmosphere. The opening not only made a piece of the city's history visible, but also significantly improved the quality of life in the city center. Furthermore, the water contributes to improving the city's climate and bringing nature and relaxation back to the heart of the old town.

The Domberg in Freising is a nearly 30-meter-high hill north of the Isar, which is a landmark of Freising that can be seen from afar. The center is the Freising Cathedral, or more precisely the Cathedral of St. Mary and St. Korbinian in Freising. The western end of the cathedral courtyard is the former prince-bishop's residence of the Freising prince-bishops (until 1802), now the Cardinal Döpfner House. The Domberg and the old town - the later-built town - form the historic city center of Freising. The lower old town borders on the north and west. The only two entrances to the Domberg are through the old town from the east via the Agilolfingertor and from the west via the Kanzlerbogen. The southern slope of the mountain forms the border between the Danube-Isar hills (western part of the Lower Bavarian hills) and the Munich gravel plain. However, the Domberg is isolated from other hills and is surrounded by branches of the Moosach river in both the south and the north. A few hundred meters to the west rises the Weihenstephaner Berg. On the south side there are two viewing terraces, the Belvedere from the Baroque period and the lower new terrace (on the underground car park). There is a view towards Erdinger Moos with Munich Airport located there. When the visibility is good, the view from the Belvedere stretches across the Munich gravel plain to Munich and the Alps; when the foehn is blowing, you can see the northern Alpine chain from the Berchtesgaden Alps to the Allgäu Alps. But it is also the year in which a great son of the city of Freising receives the recognition he deserves: a bronze figure commemorates the gifted actor Karl Obermayr (1931-1985). Freising - He has already taken a seat: Karl Obermayr, alias "Kopfeck Manni" from the cult TV series "Monaco Franze", was installed as a bronze statue on Monday afternoon on the steps of the open Moosach - at the level of Bücher Pustet and directly opposite the Furtnerbräu. The installation, which was watched with interest by numerous onlookers, took just under three hours. Among other things, a scaffold was used on which the bronze figure partially floated freely above the place where it was embedded and glued using four fastening rods. One of the most laborious tasks was drilling the necessary holes, about 30 centimeters deep. But then, around 6 p.m., Obermayr Karl was finally sitting firmly. Slightly at an angle, looking towards Kochbäckergasse, where the gifted Freising actor and stage performer grew up. The Obermayr monument will only be visible in all its glory after the unveiling next Saturday at 3 p.m. The statue is currently hidden under a tarpaulin that has been secured with adhesive tape.
