For me, the most beautiful view of old Dresden.

The historical circular trail in Meissen is an approximately 1.2 km long walking path at the foot of the castle hill, offering beautiful views of the old town and the Elbe River. It connects the area around the Cathedral Square and the Albrechtsburg Castle with the Amtsstufen (official steps). Along the way, panels provide information on the history of the castle complex, and you pass the Granary, the Stone Bridge, and the Middle Gatehouse.

The Albrechtsburg Castle on the castle hill in Meissen is one of the most famous late Gothic architectural monuments and is considered the first palace built in Germany. Starting in 1471, the Wettin Electors and Dukes of Saxony had a residential palace built there on the site of an older medieval castle. In 1710, the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory moved in. After 1864, the castle was remodeled again, and numerous rooms were decorated with historical paintings. Originally part of the 16th-century fortifications, it was transformed into a garden and promenade in the 18th century. The terrace is freely accessible and offers numerous benches for relaxation.

From its approximately 500-meter-long plateau, Brühl's Terrace offers magnificent views of the Elbe River, the Neustadt district opposite, and the baroque buildings of Dresden's Old Town, such as the Hofkirche (Court Church) and the Albertinum (Albertinum). Known as the "Balcony of Europe" because of this view, it is a popular place for strolling and relaxing. In the background, the impressive buildings of the Old Town rise, including: The Academy of Fine Arts / The Estates House / The Academy of Fine Arts / The Hofkirche / The Albertinum On the river, you can watch the historic steamers of the "White Fleet" departing from here. Several works of art, such as the Dolphin Fountain and the Sphinxes, adorn the terrace, as does the Moritz Monument, Dresden's oldest surviving monument. It stretches between the Augustus Bridge and the Carola Bridge.

Bautzen boasts several important fountains, including the Ritter-Dutschmann Fountain on the main market square, the historic New Waterworks in the city fortifications, the Nymph and Unicorn drinking fountain on Reichenstraße, and the Elector Johann Georg Fountain. There's also the historic Gesundbrunnen fountain, whose spring was once considered to have healing properties. These fountains are part of the city's sights and history.

The Wendish Tower, or Serbska wěža in Sorbian, is part of Bautzen's medieval city fortifications. It is located on the northeastern edge of the old town and is now structurally connected to Gottfried Semper's Old Barracks (Stara kaserna). A city with wealthy citizens like Bautzen had to be constantly prepared for defense in the Middle Ages. Therefore, powerful city fortifications were built to deter enemy attacks. The sieges by the Hussites in 1429 and 1431 demonstrated that the existing defenses were no longer sufficient to protect the city. The municipality subsequently had the city fortifications extensively modernized and expanded well into the 16th century, with their might serving as a deterrent to enemy attacks. An outer and an inner city wall, moats, ditches, ramparts, bastions, and towers protected the city. Seven gates in the outer ring of walls secured access to the suburbs. By the early 18th century, however, the fortifications were gradually losing their military function. Furthermore, they hampered the city's architectural development and transport growth.
