The Bachlweg is no longer an official trail. Stream crossings are difficult due to flooding, as the stream has changed significantly. You simply have to wade through. It's still worth it, though; a great scenic tour, and technically easy.

A lovingly maintained castle ruin in the middle of the Waldviertel Kamp landscape

The large Slavic fortification covers an area of approximately 15 hectares and is located on the eastern edge of the Gföhl Forest, high above the right bank of the Kamp River. The site has been known since 1800, but excavations have only been conducted here since 1965 by the University of Vienna, with financial support from the Lower Austrian provincial government.

Unfortunately, it is almost no longer accessible (logs were deliberately deposited here) and the ascent is blocked.

In 1983, the Papstwarte near Doberndorf was opened. It was built on the occasion of the visit of Pope John Paul II. With a total of 119 steps, you reach a height of 24 meters - the tower itself is located at an altitude of 497 meters above sea level. It was designed by Robert Krapfenbauer, who was born in Rodingersdorf in 1923. Doberndorf belonged to Rodingersdorf until 1920 and the tower can be found in the middle of the forest about halfway between Doberndorf and Rodingersdorf - access by car is possible. The tower is not accessible as of September 2024. It is privately owned and cordoned off. It is currently not possible to say whether and when it will be open to the public again.

the section from Tautendorf to Stiefern beside Stiefernbach is a tough ride and most properly not suitable for beginners. There are some challenging stream crossings and don't be surprised if you have to overcome some obstacles
