Its existence is first documented in 1736, when the church's accounts record 2 guilders and 46 kreuzers from the offering box as income. Pilgrims have been demonstrably gathering at this site on July 26th, St. Anne's Day, since 1840. The new chapel was consecrated by Canon Schmitt on July 26, 1952.

1.5 km west of Schönbrunn, in an idyllic clearing in the "Kapellenschlag" forest, stands a small wayside chapel dedicated to St. Anne. The exact date of its construction is unknown. It is said that a farmer from Oberneuses built the chapel out of gratitude because his cattle were spared from the rinderpest.
