For a small town Council Grove has a lot of distinctions. First off it is the seat of Morris County, and it is designated as Santa Fe Trail National Historic Landmark town. Council Grove is also the western terminus of the Flint Hills Trail, the longest rail-trail in the state.

Big Bull Creek Park is a popular nature park in Edgerton. There are picnic areas, multiple miles of hiking trails and restrooms.

Prairie Spirit Trail State Park was the first rails-to-trails site in Kansas and is designated a National Recreation Trail. The trail is hard-packed limestone surface in rural areas and paved in the more populated areas.

Kanza Park is park is best known for it's community events & celebrations. It also offers a hard-surfaced walking track lit with salvaged Victorian fixtures that were used at the turn of the century in downtown Ottawa.
