Even though women aren't allowed to enter the monastery church for "traditional reasons," the old monastery offers many beautiful, interesting corners to explore. We couldn't figure out what's behind the 100+ small chapels. Information is scarce on the island. 😉

Start from Hotel Marilena, past the water reservoir. The griffelpad runs to a dilapidated building on the right. There, follow the path, passing in front of this building, to the right. There you'll find a wooden bridge, which turns into a long cobblestone path. This path ends at a sheep farm. The road continues past a military building (resembling an apartment building/hotel) towards Petra. From there, it's easy to find the coastal road, which continues all the way (the only road with a sidewalk) to Molivos.

The route to the start is indicated by Google Maps as a challenging route for a rental car.

Known as Ligona, a ravine with 18 watermills, was bursting with life until 1960. The ravine was the source of life for the neighboring villages by grinding their crops with the windmills’ churning waters and by irrigating the fields

Very nice hike on different paths possible. Only the last 15 minutes without shade. Choose good shoes, no sneakers. Don't miss the nice village of Agiassos after the walk.

The Myrsiniótissas nunnery, like the Moní Limónos, was founded by Ignátios and was a secret school during the Turkish era. The very secluded inner courtyard is wonderfully well-kept.

The Moni from the 16th century is the largest monastery complex on the island.
