The Old Cemetery in Kalisz Pomorskie is not so old. It dates from the nineteenth century, when the previous, at least the eighteenth century cemetery was closed. And even earlier, the dead were buried at the Gothic church, which stood in the quarter of the streets: Krzywoustego, Wolności, Świerczewskiego and św. Adalbert. In any case, the Old Cemetery is the third Kalisz necropolis in turn (not counting the Jewish cemetery at Drawska St.), and the New Cemetery currently in use - the fourth necropolis. The tomb of the Wittchow family, in which Albert rests, the founder of the largest construction company in Kalisz (founded in 1886), known in the whole region - it was built at the beginning of the 20th century. Around the same time as the family villa (1919), which is nowhere to be seen (the Cooperative Bank stands in its place). The tomb was not only a monumental grave. It was also a kind of advertisement for a company that also specializes in placing gravestones. The entire Old Cemetery is filled with a number of, now buried, stone cellars that once served as catacombs, i.e. underground places for coffins.
